You can view my unit on TPT by clicking HERE We made our very own Max and wrote about what we do when we feel wild. I love how they all turned out so differently! This is the writing chart we did before we made our Max's. This chart makes a great shared reading piece for the rest of the week. Students love going back to it time and time again. Butterflies and vocabulary
I received a few comments on TPT this week about my units {the buyer stated that the Vocabulary was inappropriate for Kindergarten kids} and it made me start thinking about how different we all are as teachers. We have different philosophies about HOW and WHAT children should learn. Some of us are given teacher manuals and basal programs to teach from {my district doesn't use a reading program} and many of us are given a framework to use to guide us in our instruction. I believe that ... continue reading...

Book Study Part 1: In Pictures and in Words
Deedee Wills kicked off our book study and she did such a great job that I just want to add a few little snippits. By sharing some pictures of student writing from my classroom. One thing that really stood out to me in this book is the idea that it is OKAY to slow down and take our time. Writers don't have to jump right in and start writing "words" to create meaning. Each time they pick up a pencil or a crayon they are making meaning through their illustrations. I'm excited about really ... continue reading...

Illustration Techniques: In Pictures and In Words
Welcome back to the second week of our book study which covers the 50 illustration techniques that demonstrate "Good Writing" I have to give a shout out to Deedee Wills for working so hard to get this book study up and running! Katie Wood Ray does suggest book titles, but merely as a way to introduce these illustration techniques. She recommends searching your current book collection and reading these books with a new eye... the eye of an illustrator/writer. Each illustration ... continue reading...

I will admit that I was kind of sad for my spring break to end. I LOVE being able to sleep in just a little bit and it is so much nicer to wake up without having an alarm clock buzzing in your ear. This Insects Unit can be used with an Insect Animals theme or as stand-alone Reading and Writing lessons and activities. Here is how I plan out my Insects ... continue reading...
