Oh, my word, y'all! I am so excited to tell you about the great time I had in Atlanta last weekend. I feel like I've made some new lifelong friends. I LOVE this time of year. My little sweeties are becoming independent thinkers and learners who have blossomed into readers and writers AND all of my Favorite units are in the Spring!! We have been learning a lot about ocean animals. We learned all about different types of sharks and we decided that we thought the Great white Shark was the most interesting. Working with Words
I use the Stretchy the Word Snake mat during my Guided Reading Groups. We build words in the boxes and use the little cars (look closely under the letter m and you will see one) to drive slowly as we say each sound. They we drive our cars faster as we blend the word together. The kids love this activity. Note: if you are building a word like ship...the digraph /sh/ goes in one box because it makes one sound. Fun on the Farm!
We had so much fun learning about farm animals. We made a chart to compare and contrast sheep and pigs. We learned a lot about cows. As a culmination to our farm animal unit we made our own ice cream in a bag! The kids were able to see firsthand how matter can change from a liquid to a solid. MOOOO-velous!
