Happy Monday Y'all! This is a throwback post about another unit that I LOVE to teach during the month of October. BATS!! Oh, my word! I absolutely love bats. Okay. I'll admit that I wouldn't really want to meet one up close and personal but they are fascinating and little ones love learning all about them. If you already have my bat unit you'll want to head on over to TPT and download the updates that I just added to the unit. The link is at the end of this post. We always start ... continue reading...

Inferring with Primary Students: The Case of the Missing Toy Sack
Inferring with Primary Students: Christmas Inference Detectives Activities for Kindergarten and First-Grade Inferring with Primary Students: Kindergarten and First-Grade Inferring is an important comprehension skill for young readers to have and I love giving them lots of practice with this skill. We infer each week with the story we are reading, but I also like to give them opportunities to infer outside of the text. Inferring is just putting clues together and using that voice inside ... continue reading...

Where’s My Mummy? activities and freebies
Where's My Mummy? We did a character analysis of Bubby Mummy. We discussed how he looks, how he feels, and what he does. I typed up some statements that were true and some that weren't true. If the student's said that the statement was true for Baby Mummy then they had to give evidence to support why it should go on the chart. This activity really helped my little ones think about the characters in the stories we read. Click here to download the tree map ... continue reading...
Butterflies and vocabulary
I received a few comments on TPT this week about my units {the buyer stated that the Vocabulary was inappropriate for Kindergarten kids} and it made me start thinking about how different we all are as teachers. We have different philosophies about HOW and WHAT children should learn. Some of us are given teacher manuals and basal programs to teach from {my district doesn't use a reading program} and many of us are given a framework to use to guide us in our instruction. I believe that ... continue reading...
Common Core Standards Organization and Wishy Washy!
I've had a lot of questions about how I organize my Common Core Standards and Essential Questions. I display them on posters which are hot glued to ribbon. The standards are attached with velcro so that they are easy to change in and out. (Please excuse the bad picture above. The standards shown are from the 1st grade set. Notice that the clipart images match the standard and that the essential question clipart also matches. This helps the little ones who can't read understand the ... continue reading...

Test using Google Docs
I'm not a very "techie" person so the only way for me to learn how to do certain things is just by playing around with it and hoping I don't mess something up and create a big 'ole mess in the process! I'm trying to figure out how to start including some of my activities in my posts so that you can download them and use them in your classroom. So I'm attempting to use google docs to see if it works..... fingers crossed! If it works then I will upload some of the activities we do for word ... continue reading...
