Pirate Fun! Ahoy Mateys!
Oh, my word y'all we get out of school in two weeks and the kids are CRAZY ready! I am trying my best to keep them engaged in learning and not pull my hair out. :) We started our pirate unit last week and I was amazed at the change in behavior. Working with Words
I use the Stretchy the Word Snake mat during my Guided Reading Groups. We build words in the boxes and use the little cars (look closely under the letter m and you will see one) to drive slowly as we say each sound. They we drive our cars faster as we blend the word together. The kids love this activity. Note: if you are building a word like ship...the digraph /sh/ goes in one box because it makes one sound. Monster Fun
Today we had fun with monsters. We read lots of monster stories and poems. Leonardo the Terrible Monster was our favorite so we read it twice! This is one of the poems we read. This poem is so much fun because it is easy to act out. We acted scared for the first two lines and then we pretended to "sneak" around the room and yelled, "Boo!"
