Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion reading lesson plans and activities that your students will love! Have fun teaching with these engaging ideas!
Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion
This book adds a fun twist to the classic, Little Red Riding Hood. Alex T. Smith wrote this story about a little girl who is off to visit her Auntie with some medicine.
The girl quickly discovers what the lion is up to and comes up with a little plan, herself.
You and your students will enjoy reading to find out all about this hungry lion.

Reading Lesson Plans
The reading comprehension lesson plans will keep your students engaged in reading and responding to literature throughout the whole week. Students practice various reading comprehension strategies and develop some amazing writing. Let’s take a look!
On day one, students begin developing and practicing their synthesizing skills. Throughout this lesson, students build the “big idea” of what this story is about.
They learn to adjust their thinking as we read through the text.
This second-grade writing is great!
On day two, students practice retelling the story. A whole group retell can be completed with the printable retell cards.
There is also a digital format available to use on an interactive whiteboard.
As the week continues, students practice inferring what happens in the story.
In addition to the reading responses, students practice vocabulary and complete a craft!
