Math Part 2: Math Workshop
Yesterday, I told you a little about mine and Deedee's new Math Workshop unit. We are so pleased with the feedback we've been getting on TPT. It makes us feel great to be able to help make the lives of teachers a little easier. :) Because let's face it... Teaching is rewarding but it isn't easy!!! If you read Deedee's blog post HERE you saw that she said she does Math all day long. Ditto! I try to incorporate Math and Reading skills into just about everything I do. Providing the ... continue reading...

Pirates, Free Literacy Center Downloads and Pete the Cat
This is how I manage my literacy centers. The pirates ship was made using styrofoam sheets and paint. You can buy the sheets at most craft stores. You draw your shape onto the sheet and then cut it out with a hot wand. Super easy! The little pirates are birthday party invitations that I bought at Target. Each child is placed in a group...pirates, anchors, pirates ships, jolly rogers or maps. So you can see that today the pirate ships will complete the activities at the abc center and then ... continue reading...
Butterflies and vocabulary
I received a few comments on TPT this week about my units {the buyer stated that the Vocabulary was inappropriate for Kindergarten kids} and it made me start thinking about how different we all are as teachers. We have different philosophies about HOW and WHAT children should learn. Some of us are given teacher manuals and basal programs to teach from {my district doesn't use a reading program} and many of us are given a framework to use to guide us in our instruction. I believe that ... continue reading...
Meet the Teacher Monday: 10 Fun Things About Me!
I'm linking up with Blog Hoppin' for their fun Teacher Week Topics! So...Here we go! WARNING: This may include more information about me than you ever wanted to know! :) #1 I am married to my BEST FRIEND. A lot of people use that term but for us it really does apply. We were best friends for 3 years before we got married. My friends kept telling me that I was going to marry him someday to which I replied, "No WAY! He is just a friend!" In fact, he was engaged to someone ... continue reading...
Math Workshop
Doesn't it drive you crazy when a casual conversation with a friend ends up being something you obsess over? Usually it's a new pair of shoes or dreaming of going to a certain vacation place but in this case it was... (wait for it) MATH! :) Not the typical type of thing you'd obsess over, but hey we're teachers right? Anywhoooo, Deedee and I were discussing the fact that we weren't pleased with how our math block flowed. So, after many conversations we decided to create Math Workshop ... continue reading...
Opinion Writing
Students LOVE to share their thoughts about any topic! For instance, it may be about their favorite food or the best name for a fish. Honestly, listening to students as they share their thoughts is always enjoyable. One of my favorite ways to combine the love of sharing with academics includes opinion writing. Since writing can be challenging for students to learn, this makes the process fun and exciting. Thankfully, the Opinion Writing Workshop helps support and guides students as they become ... continue reading...
