Snowman Fun!
We only had a four day week because Monday was a teacher work day. The kids were so excited to be back and we had lots of fun with snowmen. I kept forgetting to take my camera to school. GRRRRR! I get so aggravated when I do that! Here are some of the things we did that I took a picture of. We read the book from my Snowman unit and circled the popcorn words and looked for chunks in words. We read the story, Snowmen All Year and did a directed drawing and painted snowmen. ... continue reading...
RAWR! Dinosaurs and Paleontologists!
Oh, my gosh Y'all! We have had so much fun learning about Dinosaurs! The week before our unit started my dog found (wink, wink) this egg in my backyard. We made inferences about what we thought was inside it based on its appearance. The kids noticed that, "it looked really old" and that it was "Huge". We charted their guesses on the chart below. I told them that I had peeked inside the egg and that I already knew what was inside it. I gave them one clue at a time and we made the ... continue reading...

Butterflies and vocabulary
I received a few comments on TPT this week about my units {the buyer stated that the Vocabulary was inappropriate for Kindergarten kids} and it made me start thinking about how different we all are as teachers. We have different philosophies about HOW and WHAT children should learn. Some of us are given teacher manuals and basal programs to teach from {my district doesn't use a reading program} and many of us are given a framework to use to guide us in our instruction. I believe that ... continue reading...

The kids start acting all kinds of crazy and us teachers are just plain TIRED!!! I think that this is God's way of helping us send those little ones off without it crippling us with sadness. Think about it.... we've spent 180 days with these little people. They've hugged us 1,000 times, told us they ... continue reading...

Initial Sounds Activities for Phonological Awareness
David Kilpatrick said, “Phonological and Phoneme Awareness is the foundation upon which all the other layers of literacy are built.” Honestly, this quote does an incredible job of explaining the importance of phonological awareness. Since it is the foundational layer for students to read and write, it is essential for students to work on these skills from a young age. Teachers know this importance and work hard to create enjoyable activities. Thankfully, the Initial Sounds Activities for ... continue reading...
