President’s Day is a fun time to talk about the great leaders of our Country. This nonfiction engaging readers unit helps you to do just that! Our President’s Day biography unit is full of resources and lesson plans about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Students also learn about nonfiction text features. For this unit, we used two books that were written by Caroline Crossin Gilpin. You could also read additional biographies for even more information. We’ve included guiding questions for you to use along with the various activities.
Throughout the 10-day lesson plan, students complete a timeline and discuss other nonfiction text features. They also compare then and now, infer, and form an opinion.
Everything you need is included within this unit and is simple to print and prep. With a variety of writing response formats, you can easily differentiate for your students.
Record student learning on an anchor chart for each President.
You can choose to put your student responses into a book! What a great piece of student work to send home to parents or, of course, display in the hallway.
There is also a sentence study provided for each book. Combine it with the craft for an adorable display!
