In honor of Shark Week and Back to School I chose this book to share today.
Clark the Shark is a perfect book for back to school and helping kids understand the importance of self-control, following the rules and thinking before they act.
Clark the shark has an abundant amount of energy and enthusiasm
and this causes him a few problems at school.
He loves school and he is so EXCITED about it that his behavior gets a little out of control.
This is the perfect book to use for helping the kids understand the rules and expectations in the classroom, on the playground and in the lunchroom.
The anchor chart pictured below is from a blog post by Brian Smith on Scholastic.
You can read it HERE
I made this recording sheet to go along with it.
You can grab these for free at the end of this blog post.
Have the kids draw a picture to show how they can follow one of the rules.
I love pairing fiction and nonfiction together.
This one is very text heavy so I just summarize the information and we focus a lot of attention on the pictures.
Are those some sharp teeth or what!?
This is a great video about sharks and there are many more on YouTube.
I searched for Shark videos for kids. Make sure you preview them first.
After reading both of these books you can do a venn diagram to compare and contrast the two stories.
This is the perfect way to help kids see the difference between fiction and nonfiction.
Here’s an example from one we did with our Three Little Pigs unit.
You could compare the books like I did in this one or you can compare Clark the Shark to real sharks.
Have a great week friends!
