As I’m traveling and presenting this is a question I get A LOT! What are the Other Kids Doing while I teach small groups?
So I thought I’d spend a week or two going through some of the things that my kids are
doing while I teach small groups.
Let’s start with the basics. As I’m teaching small groups my kids are working at centers.
This is my center rotation board. It helps me manage where my students are working each day.
The first row of pirates shows the name of my groups.
I have five groups: Pirates, Jolly Rogers, Anchors, Pirate Ships
In these groups my Littles are grouped in heterogeneous groups so that there is some
support for my learners who might need a little help.
At the end of each day I rotate the group icons to the right so that they are working in different
areas each day.
The second and third rows contain the center icons that show the students where they will be working.
These icons are always hanging above the area where they will be working
(for Read and Write the Room the signs are hanging where supplies are housed).
You can click HERE to print out the Icons for your Literacy Center Board.
Next, I will be blogging about the ABC Center and some of the things we do in there.
I will also have the large literacy center icons available as a free download.
I hope y’all have had a great week so far!! 🙂
UPDATE: So sorry! I’ve had internet problems at my house for a week due to storm damage and now I’m traveling this week to present at conferences. I will get to the next post as soon as I can.
