The end of the school year is such an exciting time for kindergarten students! It’s a great time to celebrate all that they have learned and reflect on the memories they’ve made. One of my favorite ways to bring some fun celebration to the end of the year is with theme days. In this post, I’m going to share several end of the year theme days that you can use to count down to summer break with your students.

11 End of the Year Theme Day Ideas
Counting down to the end of the year is always so fun for students because summer break is in sight! Theme days can be a helpful addition to your end of the year lesson plans because they bring some motivating engagement and novelty to the classroom when energy levels are high. Students are excited to come to school and see which theme day is coming next!
Here are 11 end of the year theme day ideas that are fun and memorable for students while also being easy to plan:
1. Superhero Day

Celebrate the fact that you’ve had a SUPER year with your students! A superhero theme is always a hit at the end of the year. Students will enjoy customizing their own superhero crafts and completing themed learning activities. You could even send home an invitation to have students dress up as superheroes to add to the day’s fun.
2. Pirate Day

Your students will love a day full of pirate-themed activities! Students can complete treasure-inspired math activities and record their favorite pastimes for an end-of-the-year memory book. They will also love creating a colorful macaw craft to take home!
3. Camping Day

Get your students excited about having some outdoor fun this summer with a camping theme day! You could have them bring a flashlight and blanket so they’re ready for a day of camping fun! You could bring tents into the classroom or turn tables and desks into “tents” for the day. Either way, your students will love this theme day!
4. Movie Day

By the end of the school year, we all feel like we could use a day to sit back and relax. You can invite your students to come to school in their pajamas and enjoy a movie day! But don’t worry, students will still complete meaningful review activities. They can also improve their hand strength and coordination as they crumple scraps of yellow paper to create the “popcorn” for a craft.
5. Bubbles Day

Get your students outside for some fresh air with a bubbles theme day! Your class will love the change of pace as they go outside to blow bubbles. You can even incorporate bubbles into an art project with bubble painting! Students can also create a bubble-themed page for their memory books. This page of “Bubbly Moments” gives students a chance to reflect on special memories and people from the school year.
6. Rockstar Day

Your students can show off their wildest hairstyles during a rockstar-themed day! Students can rock their way through the themed learning activities. For example, they can assemble a rockstar math puzzle by solving addition problems. They can also complete a rockstar-themed memory page for the “hair-raising highlights” of the school year.
7. Bubblegum Day

Your students will love spending the day completing bubblegum-themed learning activities! Some bubbly fun is always a good addition to the end of the year countdown. The adorable gumball machine craft is a great way for students to practice their fine motor skills.
8. Beach Day

If your class is daydreaming about their upcoming beach vacations, you can use a theme day to bring the beach to them! Students can bring their sunglasses and a beach towel for this fun day. They’ll love the beachy math and literacy activities that help them review important skills. Your students will also love to make a jellyfish craft and then document their summer bucket list for their memory book.
9. Ice Cream Day

Ice cream is always a welcome treat during the warm days at the end of the school year. Why not spend an entire day having some sweet fun with your class? These ice cream activities include a cute sundae craft as well as an ice cream page for their memory book, where students will write down their dreams.
10. Friendship Day

Your students have made so many new friends during the school year! It only makes sense to celebrate these friendships during the end of the year countdown. Students can create a friendship tree craft and a memory book page that helps students remember special friends from the school year.
11. Blast Off Day

My favorite theme day for the last day of school is blast off day. Students have worked hard all year and are now ready to blast off to first grade! To celebrate this, you can put together a space-themed day to get students excited for their next adventure. From a spaceship craft to alien math puzzles, students can have one last day of themed fun to end the school year.
End of the Year Theme Day Bundle
I have put together a resource that can help you plan a 10-day countdown for the last two weeks of school with theme days. This theme day bundle includes all of the theme day options mentioned above. The lesson plans in this bundle follow the same structure and include the same types of activities. Students will quickly learn the format of the activities and will know what to expect each day. However, the fresh theme will be a fun surprise!
If you’d like to take a closer look at everything included in this bundle, you can find it in my TPT store.
