Fall is one of my favorite times of year to teach!
I love all things Fall: pumpkins, apples, scarecrows, bats, spiders, owls….
Did I mention it is my favorite time of the year to teach?
The littles get so excited about learning and isn’t that what it’s all about?
Sometimes teachers get so bogged down with teaching what’s in the basal (no basal for me, thank you very much!) that we forget that true learning takes place when the teacher and students are EXCITED about what they are learning.
I think that when we tap into a child’s curiosity and interests we are able to take their learning to a whole new level. Not to mention there are fewer behavior problems when students are actually interested in what you are teaching them. So shut your door, put down that basal and have some fun while learning!
During the month of October we learn all about pumpkins.
Here are a few things that are included in the unit.
A nonfiction book about the life cycle of a pumpkin with real pictures.
An emergent reader of this book is also available for the Littles to color as well as a pumpkin life cycle sheet.
Full color direction sheets so the Littles can Investigate Pumpkins and do some real world math and science.
Science journal pages to record the decomposition of your Pumpkin Jack.
Pumpkin glyph craftivity with patterns and data analysis sheets.
Also, includes a bonus Pumpkin Detective game that is super challenging and super fun!!!
and MY FAVORITE!! I rewrote the, Five Little Pumpkins story with a cute twist.
My Littles LOVE this story and they want to read it over and over again.
The story comes in three versions: Big book version, pocket chart version and an emergent reader version.

I can’t even list all of the things that are in this unit because it is PACKED full of fun stuff for a Pumpkin Patch Palooza unit…
