Digital phonological awareness slides to use in your PreK, K, or 1st grade classroom or through a video conferencing platform for distance learning.
Digital Phonological Awareness
Phonological Awareness is the foundation for reading and writing success. Students who have phonological awareness know that language is made up of words, rhymes, syllables, and sounds. Within this resource, students identify rhyming words, onset and rime, syllables, and phonemes. You can use these digital slides to lead an engaging lesson to practice these important skills. Plus, the slides can be used in the classroom or online for virtual learning.
Virtual or Distance Learning
In a previous blog post about my digital morning messages, I showed how to screen share using Zoom. The Zoom platform is a great way to connect with your students during distance learning. If you would like to know more about using Zoom with these digital resources, check out this blog post:
The digital phonological awareness slides also work wonderfully through Zoom. I love the idea of being able to still “lead” an activity although you are not in the classroom, face to face, with your students.
The digital slides are available in a PowerPoint format. By doing a screen share within Zoom, you can easily allow your students to interact with the activities. For this set, students can use manipulatives from home to represent the number of sounds in each word. You can’t see in this picture, but the student is using post-it notes. Blocks, paper clips, cotton balls… really just about anything works!
You can use this resource during whole-group or small-group instruction. Plus, you can easily communicate and allow students to verbally respond to you during these interactive activities, if using a video conferencing platform.
In the Classroom
You can, of course, use these digital activities in the classroom. Display a set of slides on a board or screen in your room and guide your students through developing and practicing specific skills. Students can respond with manipulatives or write their answers on whiteboards.
Students practice various skills in a variety of themed sets that are included within the PowerPoints. In addition, each slide is followed by a self-checking slide. These activities are great for Pre-K, kindergarten, and first grade.
Your students will have so much fun with these digital slides! Above all, they won’t even know they are learning! Check out the bundle here:
